Sun Kil Moon

I had a weird experience last night. I'm watching a show on Netflix called The Elephant in the Room, a documentary about the captivity and abuse of exotic animals as pets. It focused on the situation in southern Ohio, oddly enough. The soundtrack included some catchy tunes, so I watched the credits at the end and found that many of them were performed by a band called Sun Kil Moon. A quick search for the band revealed that the band's lead man, Mark Kozelek, is from Massilon, Ohio. A further search reveal that his 2014 album Benji is ranked number 9 so far on Pitchfork's best albums of the decade (so far). One of the best songs on the album, Carissa, is about a woman from Navarre who works in Wadsworth. Very coincidental. Very cool. Very cool music, too. Also very cool is the fact that one of the other bands I've been listening to lately, The War on Drugs, was involved in a little spat with Kozelek.Strange circularity and convergence. I like when that happens. It's like accidentally meeting my wife in the woods during a bike ride.

Update: The dude has only written one good song that I can find: "Among the Leaves." I'm tired of searching among the rest of his slowcore, over-hyped sensitive/depressive crap for something similar. The movie was really good, though!
